I Believed in Knowledge is Power... And I was wrong

Like many others, time is tight! Some of us have so much to do with so little time. We are overworked already. We have to work; take care of the home and family, there are friends we need to catch up with and more. By the time we’ve ticked all the boxes, you're exhausted or in my case you get sick.
You have so many ideas and things you want to achieve but don’t know when, where or how to start or get there. We can get distracted by all the things we need to get done. But to get it done we need to make sure we are learning, developing and improving. One step at a time. Every second is a new opportunity and a chance to push ourselves to the next level.
What have you learnt so far? What else do you need to know, to do the things you want to do? For example, you want to invest in property. What do you need to know? Who do you need around you?
For some of us, life can feel like information overload and an emotional roller coaster. A lot can happen in a day. But what information are we taking in and what use is it to you? From the day we were born, we are learning and growing. But also remember from the minute we were born we were destined to die.
How much time do we have?
When it comes to improving and achieving something; it’s easy to get distracted by things that are going on. Sometimes we waste time focusing on fixing a problem from yesterday; rather than preventing the same problem from happening today or tomorrow. To ensure that yesterday’s problems don’t reoccur; we need to learn, understand and take action today.
I read somewhere that If we do not learn we become irrelevant. Our environment is forever changing and things around us are constantly happening. So we must keep upgrading ourselves. In the same way, when you stop installing the updates to a computer or phone, it will eventually come to a halt.
You learn something new every day you say. But are we learning or reinforcing and repeating what we already know? How many of us are doing the same things and getting the same results? Yet somehow you are expecting a different outcome. Furthermore, don’t confuse working at a Job with learning. Unless you are trying new things, to produce better results. While you focus on day-to-day problems, still give and make time for yourself to develop and grow.
It’s also important to note that because something is right and works today, doesn’t mean it will always be the same tomorrow.
Fearless Elevation is all about that life long learning journey. Before starting the Fearless Elevation blog; I chose to see life as a lifelong learning experience. The Logo itself comes from an Asante Adrinka symbol. A symbol that represents knowledge, life-long learning with a continued quest for knowledge. It means “He who does not know can know from learning”. Also, if you look close, it looks like a bunch of E’s and F’s in different angles. The blog is a platform where experience and knowledge are gained and shared. Whether taken from a professional or experience from myself and others.
Every day you have a choice. You can choose to invest your time into improving your quality and outlook of your life or you can do nothing. With the right and relevant Knowledge, you enrich your mind and develop new ways of thinking. You learn more about what's going on in the world around you. It can also help you in different areas of your personal life, and open the door to new opportunities.
Knowledge is more valuable and (important) than material things. Without it, we could put ourselves at risk, or in unwanted situations or be lost. You cannot solve a problem without knowledge of that problem.
Learning is important for growth. No one was born knowing what they know now. Everything you know, you learned. Learning is like exercise but for your brain. We should aim to do some every day because it’s good for us and it improves the quality of life.
The problem with learning is that there is a lot of junk out there. Sometimes the junk is somehow more pleasurable to take in, let’s be honest. I enjoy indulging in reality TV shows such as love island, Love and hip hop and more. I sometimes lie to myself and say it teaches me about life. But the truth is it doesn't. It's not gonna tell me how to get my mortgage, it's not gonna tell me how to live my life or how to stay healthy. But I still believe I learn about human behaviour to some extent.
Things We can do to gain more knowledge
Read — Pretty much self-explanatory. Read and research topics that you know will be beneficial to you and help you improve or enjoy life. For example, reading a book on investing or buying a property. Even if it's for improving your personal development.
Ask Questions — No one on earth has all the answers. Even my google home says to me 'sorry I can not help with that yet.' You learn more when we ask questions and not think we have all the answers. “When we ask questions, we fill in the blanks in our knowledge.”
Learn from Others — Surround yourself with people who are like-minded and want to learn and do more too. Speak to people who know more than you. Reflect on what you read or hear. Spend time thinking about the lessons you have learned and what you are learning.
Observe — we can learn by observing the world around us.
Be Willing to try new stuff and see what works. When things work, use them.
Be Willing to Learn by first admitting to what you don’t know. This is the first step in learning. Stay curious. Sometimes, when we assume we already know something we switch off. We can miss out small amounts of information we didn't know before.
Do not be afraid to fail. See failure as an opportunity to learn. We have been brought up and taught not to fail. As a result, we don’t try things because we don’t want to fail and this impacts our learning.
Apply and Act —You have to be curious and interested in what you learn. See life as a journey. Trying is better than not trying at all. The more you act and apply the knowledge gained, the more you will know better and do better.
At F.E we encourage you to get practical and do some research for yourselves. There are different learning styles out there so find the best learning style for you! There is knowledge all around us. We have more access than ever before to information especially because of technology. We can connect with people on social media as well as look at stuff on the internet. To add to this we can also share information with each other. Nowadays you can get an education and do a course on almost anything.
But does Knowledge change your life? Is Knowledge the real Power source?
Over the years of growing up, we have gathered vast amounts of information. Some of it holds no meaning or value and sometimes never used. For what value does the knowledge you gain have, if it has no use to you and holds no purpose. You can be very knowledgeable but yet not fulfil your potential? Why?
Because Knowledge does not change people's lives, wisdom does.
Knowledge increases your awareness of the world around you. Yes. It can empower you. Yes. But for me, Knowledge with Wisdom is the thing that transforms you. Opens the mind and increases your understanding. Makes you act, gives you discernment and makes you Powerful.
Some would argue that it is the same thing. Yet, you can have knowledge but no wisdom and have wisdom but no knowledge. To have both you need to understand what you know, how do you know and how to use it. We tend to have more knowledge than wisdom because it is easier to gain knowledge than it is to get wisdom. Being wise seems a little more complicated than being knowledgeable.
‘Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands get guidance.’
The knowledge we gain in life is only information. You don’t need to apply and act on everything you know, you don’t have to believe or like what you know. When you internalise the information, apply it and know how to use it; you develop wisdom, you change and it channels you into action.
Knowledge is external and wisdom is internal. It becomes a part of you. Knowledge is beneficial but Wisdom is important. Knowledge is transformed to wisdom through experience and understanding. Wisdom is the real power as it is the direction. Imagine knowing where to go but not knowing how to get there. Build your power so you can build your capacity to empower others around you. When your knowledge is weak in a domain, increase your knowledge and apply it.
There are things we know, but we are yet to understand and apply it to our lives. For me, there are many things. But in time I will learn, know and understand.
To take what you know and apply it to life involves making a plan. Make a Plan. Create a list of goals. Decide what you need to learn and achieve the goal. Break those goals down into smaller steps. Give yourself time to achieve them.
Be patient with yourself! Give yourself that space maybe an hour a day or a few minutes a day. No rush. Learning is a process where smaller events can contribute to a big outcome.
Remember
Knowledge is important but so is the wisdom gained from it.
Value your failure, you will learn what not to do.
Focus on the process and not the outcome.
Make Time for Reflection.
Treat others as your learning companions.
Your experience is Valuable.
Your life will become a reflection of everything you know in life (learned) and have experienced.
Beware
Share your knowledge. Something that you know may help someone else. Ignorance can be generational. What you know can be transferred to your kids. In the same way, what you don't know can also affect your kids, and they can end up having the same problems you had or have. The less you know and the less they can learn. Learn for the unborn generation.
